Nina has been killed in a vampire attack, and the gang now must care for baby Eve—her werewolf heritage having drawn the attention of the Old Ones, powerful vampire overlords. George dies while rescuing Eve, leaving her in the custody of Tom (who moves into Honolulu Heights) and Annie. Soon, Hal reappears, having become the new vampire at Honolulu Heights. Lawyer Nick Cutler, a vampire Hal created in 1950, hatches a plan to expose werewolves as part of a larger vampire conquest of Earth. Cutler manipulates Hal to revert to his violent blood-drinking ways, and the blood triggers an overdrive state in Hal. When Alex, his girlfriend, meets him for a second date, Hal repels her with crude, erratic behavior, and she leaves angrily—only to be followed by one of Cutler’s men. Meanwhile, Eve, from the future, reveals to Annie that in her timeline, most humans are dead or imprisoned in concentration camps, with vampires ruling the world, and Hal is the ruthless leader of this new vampire revolution. Annie is devastated to learn Hal is the architect of this horror. To save the world, Eve begs Annie to kill her as a baby, but Annie hesitates—until Cutler reveals Alex’s drained corpse, seeking revenge for Hal’s 1950 murder of his wife in a similar manner. Cutler locks Hal up, but Alex returns as a ghost to help him escape.
